India Basin Native Plants

There are significant wildflower areas on the hillside that need to be considered in the overall plan for the area.

This yellow mariposa lily is one of the flowers, rare in SF, that does well on the serpentine hillside

This is a very nice stemless morning glory plus a tiny plantain in the background.

They are native to the area and plentiful on the hillside.

This is the lovely poppy native to this location, India Basin & the serpentine hillside. The flowers tend to be two-toned, especially later in the summer, with yellow edges and orange center.

The poppy gene pool is so diluted in SF from poppy seed flower packets, it is nice to be able to see what the original local poppy looked like.

Calandrinia or red maids is a tiny annual plant with striking magenta flowers.  You have to look carefully to see it.

This flower is called blue dicks (Dichelostemma capitatum).
It is common in serpentine grasslands such as the IB hillside, and was much appreciated by the native Ohlone for its edible bulbs.
